 Press Releases

  • Woodstock, GA – NeoMed is pleased to announce the launch of the new NeoConnect DoseMate DL (Directional Long) – an innovative and ergonomic solution for gentle, direct oral medication administration with an ENFit® syringe.

This new, patent-pending pharmacy accessory is ideal for dosing oral medications directly to the patient’s cheek or back of the mouth.

The soft, pliable cannula features a smooth, rounded tip, which is optimal when administering oral medication into a patient’s mouth. Not only does the inventive design mitigate concerns over placing threaded syringe tips into a patient’s mouth, it also provides patient comfort during direct oral administration without introducing a choking hazard.1

Dosing accuracy is a key component of the DoseMate DL design. Similar to its DoseMate counterpart, the DoseMate DL minimizes priming volume and helps prevent fluid accumulation in the syringe’s moat, which complies with the Global Enteral Device Supplier Association’s (GEDSA) August 2016 position statement.

Ben Davis, Vice President of Engineering and Product Development, said, “Not only does the DoseMate DL satisfy a clinical need not previously addressed with other ENFit systems, but it also represents an improvement in care compared to what was available with legacy systems.”

“The addition of the DoseMate DL to our ENFit accessories portfolio contributes to our mission of supporting the specialized feeding and medication dosing needs of the low birth weight, neonatal, and pediatric patient populations. We are very pleased to release a new product focused on patient comfort, while following clinical best practices. The DoseMate DL is yet another effective accessory that will help minimize protocol changes for clinicians as the global transition to ENFit continues,” stated NeoMed President, Aaron Ingram.

  • Woodstock, GA – NeoMed is pleased to announce the release of the ENFit filtered blunt needle. Commonly used with oral/enteral medications such as caffeine, the blunt needle features an ENFit connection, allowing ENFit syringe users to draw up oral/enteral medications from manufacturers’ vials, ampules, and other containers.

The blunt needle is packaged sterile and features a 5µm filter for filling from glass ampules. The 18 gauge stainless steel needle with an angled tip allows for easy penetration through a vial’s rubber membrane. The needle comes assembled with a protective sheath and is 38 mm long for easy use with most vials.

“As a leading manufacturer and supplier of ENFit products and accessories, we are proud to continue that philosophy by releasing the ENFit blunt needle. The release of this product demonstrates our ability to recognize market demand and respond to our customers’ needs,” stated NeoMed President, Aaron Ingram.

NeoMed’s Vice President of International Operations, Hilary Sherman, added “One of the main objectives of our ENFit portfolio is to offer products that minimize process change when switching to ENFit. The blunt needle is an important component in facilitating that goal.”

  • NeoMed, Inc. announces the launch of the “NeoConnect® Certification Program for ENFit®.”  The curriculum was developed as an essential resource to assist NeoMed customers during the global transition to ENFit.  The NeoConnect Certification Program is designed for clinicians to demonstrate and document clinical competency with managing the use of ENFit products to enhance patient outcome by addressing essential topics such as:

    • Compliance with GEDSA Guidelines to administer low volume doses using the
      Low Dose Tip Syringe
    • Impact of the moat during small volume doses to preserve dose accuracy
    • Identifying protocol changes
    • Maintaining current processes
    • Characterizing successful facility transitions
    • Enhancing productivity
    • Maximizing Ease of Use
    • Feeding tube hub cleaning procedures that support ASPEN recommendations

NeoConnect® Certification is achieved after clinicians undergo ENFit product, procedure, and simulation training.  Post-training testing helps ensure that participants possess the knowledge base to train other clinicians and health care professionals as the industry transitions to ENFit.  NeoMed has implemented over 60 successful ENFit conversions, representing an estimated 2,600,000 delivered enteral and medication administrations.

In preparation for this ongoing clinical project, NeoMed completed NeoConnect Certification Training for its domestic Sales Organization during the NeoMed National Sales Meeting recently held in Atlanta, Georgia.  This will allow the entire sales team to assist clinicians with this important implementation initiative.

Aaron Ingram, NeoMed President, states “NeoMed’s Certification Program is fundamental to driving a successful transition by helping ensure clinical understanding of work flow processes and the necessity of ENFit competency during the transition to ENFit.  It provides customers with the documented expertise and the skill set required to support conversions to ENFit.”

Over 7,000 U.S. hospitals are preparing for the transition to ENFit.  NeoMed has developed a number of additional programs, such as the “NeoMed Transition Program,” that help navigate this global conversion.  Collectively, these programs help to identify hospital staff training needs, establish, and review process protocols, and ensure supply chain integrity before conversion.

  • The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), an organization devoted to medication error prevention, released its position that transition adapters for ENFit® syringes can defeat the purpose of ENFit itself.

Hospitals that have not yet fully transitioned to ENFit are receiving ENFit administration sets with transition adapters. According to this position statement, improper use of transition adapters can cause choking hazards, allow for the risk of inadvertent IV injection of oral liquids, and can cause inaccurate liquid dosing of small volume liquids in patients.

ISMP issued a Medication Safety Alert in September that states:

“ISMP stands behind the need for full conversion to ENFit devices to reduce the risk of accidental connection of syringes and administration sets meant for other routes of administration. Transition adapters for feeding tubes must be considered a temporary measure only. Adapters for syringes add risk, especially when the adapter allows compatibility between Luer-tip syringes that should never be used for preparing or administering oral liquids or suspensions. As soon as possible, full conversion should occur to feeding tubes and administration sets that use only integrated ENFit connectors. In the meantime, all risks, even if temporary, should be fully explained and outlined to staff.”

NeoMed President, Aaron Ingram, stated, “Some manufacturers appear to be positioning these ENFit transition connectors as long-term product offerings. As a result, the use of ENFit transition connectors potentially reintroduces the risk of misconnection, challenging the spirit of ISO 80369-3:2016, and compromising compliance with The Joint Commission Sentinel Alert recommendations. NeoMed’s NeoConnect® family of ENFit products provides an integrated ISO 80369-3:2016 solution without depending on ENFit transition connectors, potential unexpected volume losses, and other unanticipated consequences.”
