Xperius Ultrasound System

 Press Releases

  • BETHLEHEM, PA – August 31, 2017  – B. Braun Medical Inc. will present the new Xperius® ultrasound system — designed to make regional anesthesia easier to perform and more effective — at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) meeting, Oct. 21-23 in Boston.

Xperius was designed to support current and future needs in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia at the point of care, representing a new approach to regional anesthesia and pain management. It is the first product resulting from a strategic alliance between B. Braun Melsungen AG and Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), an industry leader in image-guided therapy solutions.

"B. Braun and Philips formed a multi-year strategic alliance to leverage the companies' combined deep clinical expertise and R&D capabilities, as well as sales and service channels," said Peter McGregor, Director of Marketing, Pain Control at B. Braun Medical. "The alliance's solutions support anesthesiologists and hospitals in the critical area of regional anesthesia, including needle visualization and guidance, optimized procedure workflow, and resource planning."

Xperius is designed to be mobile and fit seamlessly into the care area. Its anatomical imaging complements B. Braun’s regional block needle portfolio and addresses the continued need for enhanced needle visualization and guidance. Xperius’ fully articulating arm allows easy adjustments of the ultrasound monitor position and screen angle for ergonomic use and an unobstructed view of the screen. Conference attendees will be able to see a demonstration of the Xperius ultrasound system’s functionality at B. Braun’s booth #3126 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Xperius complements B. Braun’s innovative products for ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, which include the recently launched peripheral nerve block portfolio comprised of Stimuplex® Ultra 360® and Contiplex® Ultra 360®. Xperius also is designed to support future innovations for needle visualization and guidance.

Visitors to B. Braun’s booth #3126 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center will be able to see the Stimuplex and Ultraplex 360 needles, including the new Stimuplex Ultra 360 and Contiplex Ultra 360. The regional block needle portfolio includes stimulating, non-stimulating and echogenic single shot and continuous needles to match clinical preferences.

  • BETHLEHEM, PA – August  28, 2017 — B. Braun Medical Inc., a market leader in regional anesthesia, has epidural and spinal anesthesia products with NRFit™ connectors available for sale in compliance with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 80369-6 and California State Legislation. The NRFit connectors will be part of the B. Braun products displayed at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) meeting, Oct. 21-23 in Boston.

ISO standards for small bore connectors are intended to help prevent misconnections and improve patient safety. In accordance with ISO standards, all healthcare facilities are expected to transition to products that meet this standard for neuraxial and regional anesthesia. Additionally, California took legislative action to mandate that healthcare facilities transition to non-luer epidural products at the start of this year.

The current design of universal luer connectors poses the risk of inadvertent misconnections. The new NRFit connector design helps to avoid connections between medical devices meant for neuraxial administration and devices used for IV, enteral and other applications. By using devices with NRFit connectors, clinicians can help reduce the risk of misconnection between applications and help reduce medical errors.

“B. Braun has been at the forefront of preparing for this change,” said Peter McGregor, Director of Marketing, Pain Control at B. Braun. “We have taken an active role in helping our customers comply with the evolving industry safety standards, including transitioning to products with NRFit connectors. As the leader in regional anesthesia products and a strong advocate for patient safety, B. Braun is committed to providing the safest delivery of medications in healthcare settings to help improve patient outcomes.”

  • BETHLEHEM, PA – September 21, 2017 — B. Braun Medical Inc. will reinforce its commitment to reducing healthcare-acquired infections when it launches new products next month that help reduce bacterial contamination of stopcocks and other IV connectors in the surgical suite.

At ANESTHESIOLOGY 2017, the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) meeting, Oct. 21-23 in Boston, B. Braun will present the SAXA Anesthesia Disinfection Workstation. The workstation includes the new DOCit™ and HubScrub™ disposable disinfection devices, which are designed to help organize the anesthesia work space in an operating room. The DOCit device is intended to disinfect and clean syringe tips and male luer connectors, and the HubScrub device is intended to disinfect and clean needleless connectors and stopcocks.

“In collaboration with SAXA Medical Solutions, LLC, B. Braun is bringing to surgical suites the Anesthesia Disinfection Workstation system, which can help reduce stopcock contamination,”1 said Steve Weber, Director of Marketing, IV Systems at B. Braun. “It’s designed to improve intravascular device disinfection in the operating room, which in turn can help reduce healthcare-acquired infections.”

The DOCit device is designed to organize and protect syringe tips and other male luer connectors from contamination. The DOCit device scrubs and disinfects male luer tip connectors and needleless syringes with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Disinfection of the male luer tip occurs after two 360-degree rotations within 10 seconds.2

The HubScrub device is a female luer disinfector and cleaner with 70 percent IPA. Disinfection of the needleless connector is achieved after two 360-degree rotations within 10 seconds.2 The HubScrub device can provide a microbial barrier to contamination for up to 7 days if not removed.3

ASA attendees can learn more about the SAXA Anesthesia Disinfection Workstation and DOCit and HubScrub devices at the B. Braun booth #3126 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

In addition, B. Braun will sponsor “Improving Intravascular Device Disinfection in Today’s Operating Rooms: Clinical Implications, Methodology and Fidelity Measurement” presented by Randy Loftus, M.D., Associate Professor, Anesthesiology. The presentation, to be held adjunct from ASA, will be at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22.
