Yaskawa is unique in serving the high throughput and commercial diagnostic and genetic laboratory with robust, automated solutions for pre- and post-analytic specimen processing, as well as fully-connected, end-to-end processing solutions. Standalone workcells provide “task-target” process automation, while integrated systems with a specimen transport conveyor process each specimen as needed to complete the full pre-analytic sequence. Yaskawa also offers extensive process engineering and development capabilities to address unique specimen processing and other clinical lab workflow labs. Solutions include: thaw and mix, relabeling, kitting, instrument connectivity, IT solutions and custom rack development.

 Press Releases

  • Aim Lab’s PathFinder 350A Archiver is a compact bench top workstation for automating the capping (foil sealing), sorting and archiving of sample tubes directly from analyzer racks into low-cost storage racks.

When sampling is complete, analyzer racks are loaded on to the PathFinder 350A for processing. Those sample tubes where all requested tests have been completed are foil sealed and sorted into uniquely identified storage racks. Tubes are capped with a laminated foil which seals the tube preventing evaporation and leakage during transport or freezer storage.

The PathFinder 350A is best suited to archiving workloads of 500 – 3,000 tubes per day and offers the following additional benefits:

    • Significantly reduces tube handling and eliminates manual processing errors
    • Easy sample tracking
    • Reduces repetitive strain injuries
    • Low cap costs compared to alternatives
    • Sorts out those tubes with any outstanding tests including send outs

Come and see a demonstration of the PathFinder 350A at the Yaskawa America, Inc., Motoman Robotics Division Booth 3053 at the AACC Clinical Lab Expo in Atlanta, Georgia.

  • Specifically designed for the Sysmex XN-Series hematology line, AutoSorter™ XN is a robust robotic platform for pre- and post- analytic specimen processing in demanding laboratory environments. Well-suited for high-volume commercial lab requirements such as bulk loading and high-speed specimen sorting, AutoSorter XN is capable of loading/unloading a fully populated line at capacity, processing up to 1,100 specimens/hour.

Built to industrial standards, robots and components are proven to produce extremely high system uptime and reliability for movement of specimens within the workcell. A large sort deck maintains increased quantities of specimens for fully automated workload balancing, yielding extended walkaway times and freeing workers from non-value-added processing tasks.

AutoSorter XN features hopper loaded input, accommodating specimen tubes 13 mm x 75 mm. Powerful vision technology determines tube orientation and checks for label positions, while the specimen ID (SID) is compared to a database for processing instructions. Conforming specimens are placed into corresponding target racks or to a
10-position Sysmex rack to be conveyed to the XN hematology line. When testing is complete, all racks are conveyed back to the AutoSorter XN for tube unloading and post-analytic sorting into output racks and drawers based on LIS instructions (archive or secondary sort).

Traceability of each specimen is accurately maintained throughout the system including the target rack, row/column location. IT connectivity facilitates sort instruction and archive log data.

Yaskawa provides automation solutions for labor-intensive, high throughput areas of the clinical diagnostic laboratory. Capabilities include sorting; aliquoting; decapping/recapping; thawing/mixing; centrifugation; and archive storage and retrieval – with a range of standard platforms. AutoSorter solutions can be customized to meet every laboratory's unique specimen processing needs. about Sysmex America at www.sysmex.com/us.

  • AutoSorter™ 1200 is Yaskawa Motoman’s high-speed sorting instrument for pre- and post-analytic specimen processing. It can process up to 1,200 tubes/hr. A large sort deck area yields extended walkaway times and expanded deck configuration options, while its reduced footprint saves precious lab floorspace. AutoSorter 1200 may be positioned against a wall or next to other instruments as all maintenance access is from the front of the instrument. AutoSorter 1200 is the standard for robust, accurate specimen sorting in high-throughput commercial/reference laboratories.

AutoSorter 1200 provides improved processing accuracy, specimen traceability and relieves laboratory staff of repetitive tasks and exposure to infection. It permits the use of a wide variety of specimen container configurations and instrument racks. It may be used as a standalone workcell for “task-targeted” specimen processing (AutoSorter 1200S), or it may be connected to a track system (AutoSorter 1200T) as part of an integrated pre-/post-analytic specimen processing system. A bulk loading (input) option is available.

A bulk sorter model (AutoSorter 2000BB) is also available and provides maximum specimen throughput at up to 2,000 tubes/hr. It minimizes manual handling of specimens through bulk loading/unloading, and reduces sequential sorting by fine sorting in one step. A bulk sorter configuration that maintains frozen specimens in a -20°C environment during the sorting process is also available.

Yaskawa Motoman provides automation solutions for labor-intensive, high throughput areas of the clinical diagnostic laboratory. Capabilities include sorting; aliquoting; decapping/recapping; thawing/mixing; centrifugation; and archive storage and retrieval – with a range of standard platforms. AutoSorter solutions can be customized to meet every laboratory's unique specimen processing needs.
