IOCAS was founded in 1950. It is the first ocean research institute in China.IOCAS has made a number of fundamental advancements in both academic research and industrial application, including opening up new research fields, vindicating marine regulations for the benefit of our country, exploring marine resources, preventing natural marine disasters, protecting marine ecological systems and environments, developing sustainable marine economy, and advancing social civilization. IOCAS has obtained a large number of basic and pioneering scientific achievements, which laid the foundation for the development of China's marine science, and also provide scientific information for Marine military, Shipping, Fisheries, Engineering, and others.
