The Esophageal Doppler Monitor (EDM+) uses ultrasound to hemodynamically optimize patients in surgery or intensive care. CMS provides coverage for EDM and agreed it is reasonable and necessary for “Monitoring cardiac output for ventilated patients in ICU” and for “Patients needing intraoperative fluid optimization”.
The latest multi-centre RCT shows that following a hemodynamic protocol using EDM reduces major post-op complications by over 70%, including AKI and SSI's.
The EDM+ has just been awarded a 3 year Innovative Technology Contract by Vizient on the basis of improving patient safety, whilst significantly reducing healthcare expenditure.
