ABOUT ME
As an individual originating from Vietnam and undergoing educational pursuits in Russia while residing in the United States, I have had the opportunity to experience extensive international living and travel, thus exposing me to diverse cultures.
I initiated my artistic journey during my childhood. My passion for art truly came to life in 2001 when I moved to Moscow, Russia to study industrial design. Seven years of academic engagement encompassing disciplines such as painting, graphics, sculpture, photography, built up in me a profound appreciation for the arts, seamlessly integrating them into parts of my life.
In 2010, my family and I relocated and established residence in Washington D.C., USA. Then the year 2020 proved to be tumultuous on a global scale, particularly affecting the United States. This period was also a turning point for me, allowing me the opportunity to contemplate and reevaluate my interests and passions.
I opted to conclude all my commercial ventures and transitioned to a full-time commitment to painting. My creative endeavors draw inspiration from stimuli eliciting emotional responses. This encompasses a spectrum ranging from tangible subjects like flowers, landscapes, humans, and animals, to intangible concepts such as balance, the circle of life, and love. As an enthusiast of graffiti art, I derive enjoyment from engaging in adventures with colors.
I frequently fuse impressionistic and expressionistic techniques with emotive elements in the creation of my artworks. While exhibiting a fondness of oil-based mediums, my proficiency extends to various other artistic materials. Consequently, aside from oil and lacquer paintings, certain pieces in my portfolio are crafted through the application of multiple layers incorporating diverse materials. During the timeframe of 2021-2022, I actively engaged in numerous exhibitions across Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Philadelphia...
In addition to presenting my artworks to art collectors, participation in exhibitions afforded me the opportunity to engage in dialogues with artists employing diverse styles and media. This experience focused me in exploring a distinctive material and medium, ultimately guiding me towards Vietnamese lacquer. Consequently, in 2023, I made the decision to return to Vietnam. In June of the same year, a solo exhibition by Ly Tran titled "Đa Sắc" (Colorful) took place in Hanoi, garnering significant attention and positive reviews within the Vietnamese art community.
In 2023, I actively participated in numerous international exhibitions hosted in Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. A noteworthy event was my involvement in the BON VOYAGE Freedom & Love International Art Exhibition Edition 3.0 in Borobudur, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. During this exhibition, I was honored with the "Best Artwork" award, presented by Mr. Hong Djien Oei, the OHD Museum owner, esteemed appraiser, and Indonesia's largest collector.
Following an immersive experience of nearly a year in Asia, dedicated to rediscovering aspects of my artistic identity, I concluded this chapter at the close of 2023 by returning to the United States, marking the inception of a new phase in my creative journey.
