Small, 8-ounce sensor that monitors for both minor and major impacts to critical safety assets. Designed to deploy on crash cushions, guardrails, end-terminals, cable barriers, road-side units (e.g., traffic signal control units or railroad crossing). Most states and municipalities do not have a formal program for monitoring for minor (nuisance) impacts. These pernicious events are most concerning as the impact may compromise the performance of the safety device yet goes unreported. If the vehicle drives away, reporting becomes haphazard. The IDS sensor will alert personnel via text, email, and push to the central monitoring system (IMS/CMS). Second impacts to a compromised, unreported crash cushion have resulted in fatalities and significant liability.
The novel technology developed by Pi-Lit allows for many sensors to connect to the cloud service using a single cellular connection. This lowers the cost of hardware and monthly connection fee. Other products require a modem for each sensor. The Pi-Lit sensor includes GPS location, accelerometer tunable by the user from the desktop, health status reporting, temperature and humidity reporting, battery status reporting, and extensive dashboard and asset control software. All deployments are capable of delivering critical data to the state or municipality via an API.
Deployment takes one minute, does not require any tools or modification to the asset monitored, uses 3M aggressive tape, and does not require brackets or other attachment. Battery power and totally stand-alone, the device is rated for 4-5 years.
