  • Dayton, OH (August 2018) — Yaskawa Motoman offers track-based specimen processing solutions that improve speed, capacity and accuracy for labor-intensive, high throughput areas of the clinical diagnostic lab. These fully integrated pre- and post-analytic automation solutions can enable high-volume throughput with minimal staffing to meet the needs for moderate volume labs up to the largest commercial laboratory operations.

    The track-based solutions are scalable and can easily evolve to add/change processes, throughput and configuration as business needs change. The integrated system, connected by a specimen transport conveyor, manages the workflow of over 6,000 specimens per hour through the pre- and post-analytic sequence. Automated Laboratory Processing System (ALPS) software provides data management and connectivity with many laboratory information management systems.

    Specimen processing workflow may include: specimen ID, container imaging, relabeling, volume determination, centrifugation, decapping, aliquoting, thaw/mix, recapping, sorting to instrument racks, label orientation, archive logging/consolidation, rules-based resorting and disposal.

    Yaskawa Motoman’s process automation systems are engineered to collect and analyze specimen processing data. Multiple connectivity and configurability options facilitate data exchange across information systems and ensure compatibility with future IT architecture.

    These specimen processing systems feature robust, high quality construction and have minimal maintenance requirements. They are extremely efficient and continually achieve high consistency in Turn Around Time (TAT).

  • Dayton, OH (August 2018) — AutoSorter 1200 is Yaskawa Motoman’s high-speed sorting instrument for pre- and post-analytic specimen processing. It can process up to 1,200 tubes/hr. A large sort deck area yields extended walkaway times and expanded deck configuration options, while its reduced footprint saves precious lab floorspace. AutoSorter 1200 may be positioned against a wall or next to other instruments as all maintenance access is from the front of the instrument. AutoSorter 1200 is the standard for robust, accurate specimen sorting in high-throughput commercial/reference laboratories.   

    AutoSorter 1200 provides improved processing accuracy, specimen traceability and relieves laboratory staff of repetitive tasks and exposure to infection. It permits the use of a wide variety of specimen container configurations and instrument racks. It may be used as a standalone workcell for “task-targeted” specimen processing (AutoSorter 1200S), or it may be connected to a track system (AutoSorter 1200T) as part of an integrated pre-/post-analytic specimen processing system.

    A bulk sorter model (AutoSorter 2000BB) is also available and provides maximum specimen throughput at up to 2,000 tubes/hr. It minimizes manual handling of specimens through bulk loading/unloading, and reduces sequential sorting by fine sorting in one step. A bulk sorter configuration that maintains frozen specimens in a -20°C environment during the sorting process is also available.

It minimizes manual handling of specimens through bulk loading/unloading, and it reduces sequential sorting by fine sorting in one step.

    AutoSorter 2000BB addresses other common requirements for high-volume commercial labs: bulk loading; wide range of container types and sizes; data connectivity and sorting to 24 bins with options for loading to racks or track.

    A bulk sorter configuration that maintains frozen specimens in a -20°C environment during the sorting process is also available. This enables automated sorting of most frozen specimens which previously required labor-intensive and error-prone manual handling.

    AutoSorter 2000BB utilizes the AutoSorter 1200 platform – a proven, robust sorter engine that is designed and built to industrial standards to serve for an extended lifecycle in high-demand laboratory environments.
