 Press Releases

  • WESTBROOK, Maine (July 1, 2022) Artel will be attending the 2022 AACC Annual Scientific Meeting and Clinical Lab Expo July 24-28 in Chicago, IL. AACC provides the ideal setting for lab professionals to learn about new technologies and the latest trends in the industry.

Now more than ever, medical professionals are depending on clinical laboratories to aid in treatment decisions on a daily basis. Treatments are based on laboratory test results, and a critical element in these important decisions is the confidence that the test results are accurate, ensuring the best patient outcome.  Proficiency in liquid delivery techniques plays a vital role in generating that important data. Artel will be highlighting the impact that skilled technicians have on test result quality, an issue of concern shared by all clinical laboratories.

During AACC, Artel will host the ever-popular Pipetting Challenge in booth 1219 – which provides an opportunity for attendees to demonstrate their expertise and pipetting skills.  The Artel Pipette Calibration System (PCS®) used in the Challenge produces immediate feedback on an operator’s pipetting accuracy and precision. This event provides participants the chance, in friendly competition with their peers, to demonstrate their pipetting abilities and to strive to win a bronze, silver or gold medal, as well as a new pipette, an Amazon gift card for lab supplies, and an Amazon Fire tablet.

Artel will also be showcasing the new ArtelWare™ software.  ArtelWare, used with the Artel Multichannel Verification System (MVS®), offers coordination of the performance records of  pipettes, automated liquid handlers, and operators on one easy-to-use platform. With the ability to easily manage and document calibrations, verifications, operator assessments, and more, this new software increases productivity and helps labs achieve their goals for compliance and quality.

Melinda Gold, Ph.D., Artel, will be presenting “Patient Outcomes Depend on Accurate Assay Results, which depend on Liquid Delivery Volume” on Thursday, July 28th as part of the Exhibit Hall Lecture Series.

Stop by the Artel booth!  We also look forward to talking with you about the new opportunities we expect that our partnership with Advanced Instruments (Booth 3039) will be bringing to our customers!

  • WESTBROOK, Maine (May 19, 2022) Ensuring the accuracy of serum tests is critical in diagnosing and treating diseases and in maximizing workflow productivity.  Sera dispense differently than aqueous solutions or even the 20% glycerol commonly used to mimic them, and the default class settings in liquid handlers are often not sufficiently accurate to provide quality data.  This is particularly problematic when the sample material is limited in amount or difficult to acquire.

Artel is responding to this need with the release of SerumSub QualAssure, a solution with the rheological properties of sera that is designed to be used in optimizing class settings for liquid handlers without having to expend precious sample material for that purpose.  SerumSub allows scientists to optimize their instrumentation with the Artel MVS (Multichannel Verification system) quickly and efficiently, greatly improving the quality of data produced by assays involving sera.

One scientist among the first to adopt this product commented, “The SerumSub QualAssure solution is awesome, it allows us to quickly see the dispensing data in each well of a 96 well plate. Compared to using gravimetry, the MVS and SerumSub save time because we can dispense and get the results for 96 wells simultaneously. We plan on using SerumSub to optimize a serum liquid class and then verify our automated liquid handler performance routinely.”

  • WESTBROOK, ME (May 12, 2022) – ISO standards are a solid basis for improving measurement quality and reducing risks in laboratories, i.e, in test and assay results. Many organizations require that laboratories be in compliance with applicable international standards, and companies commonly prefer dealing with ISO-compliant partners. So, when these standards are updated it is important to take note.

The original seven parts to the ISO 8655 series, applying to manual liquid handling, have undergone significant revision. These standards address general requirements & user recommendations, pipettes, burettes, dilutors, dispensers, and syringes, as well as gravimetric and photometric methods for measuring the volume delivered by these devices.  Two new parts, Part-8 and -9, have been added to this series of standards. Focused effort by numerous experts from many organizations and countries contributed to bringing these standards up-to-date. Among the changes are:

    - The maximum permissible systematic and random errors for small volume pipettes have been revised and tightened significantly. This can lead to more accurate and precise results from assays.

    - The series now allows routine testing in users’ laboratories, in addition to calibrations. This will allow scientists to test their own equipment in-house, in the environment in which it is used, which can result in more applicable routine test and calibration results, as well as significant cost savings.

    - Part 7 has been expanded to include volume measurement methods in addition to the two reference methods described in Part 6 and Part 8. Laboratories now have more options for calibration and test methods.

    - A new Part 8 has been developed to specify the photometric reference measurement method for the determination of volume. Dual-dye ratiometric photometry is a highly accurate and precise means of measuring liquid volumes, particularly small volumes.

    - A new Part 9 has been developed for precision laboratory syringes used for delivering liquids. Maximum permissible errors, design requirements, and terminology definitions have been specified for syringes. This will facilitate quality control and consistency of results when using these devices in the laboratory.
