RefleXion is developing first biology-guided radiotherapy (BgRT*), a significant change in strategy from single tumor therapy to one day treating multiple tumors in the same treatment session in metastatic disease. Using the anatomic data from CT and functional PET imaging data to guide personalized radiotherapy, the RefleXion™ X1 machine detects emissions generated by tumors and synchronizes these data with the linear accelerator to direct radiotherapy to tumors with sub second latency. Response to detected emissions forms the fundamental principle of BgRT. Using the tumor’s own emissions to guide radiotherapy may reduce treatment margins and the subsequent radiation dose to healthy tissue. The X1 is currently FDA cleared for SBRT, SRS, and IMRT, all external beam radiotherapy techniques.

    RefleXion biology-guided radiotherapy or BgRT* is the first to combine PET – the gold standard in imaging – with radiotherapy to solve the conundrum of tumor tracking, even in rapidly moving tumors. With BgRT, emissions from the cancer itself act as a fast, biological fiducial to guide treatment delivery in real-time. By using the cancer itself to guide tracked dose delivery, BgRT may reduce treatment volumes and toxicity to preserve dose for treating additional tumors. For many patients, clinical evidence suggests the best treatment plan is a combination of multiple therapies. BgRT aims to open the door for definitive radiotherapy for more patients – even those with advanced disease. RefleXion will work together with chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted drugs to potentially improve patient outcomes.
