Zoe Linn Jarvis’s paper art is an honest labor; painting a picture with paper. Zoe executes an artwork using three simple tools — an art knife, colored paper, and glue. Each piece of paper you see is individually cut out by hand, layered with other pieces of paper, and finally glued together. No machines, lasers, die cuts, or stencils are used. As a result no two shapes are the same. Where a pastel artist or a painter can quickly alter the composition with a smear of material, no such solution exists working with paper. Instead, the medium demands each line and dot be cut with a knife and attached to the surface. The work presupposes irreversibility because removing pieces that have already been attached will leave scars. Zoe prides meticulous attention to detail, eye-catching color palettes, and clean craftsmanship in her client work and personal projects.
