Inspired by drip paintings and nature, I “quilt” heavy fabric with a network of layered colors and stitch patterns. Instead of paint, I use thread as my medium and instead of a paintbrush, I use a few different sewing machines to stitch the thread to the base fabric using free-motion stitching techniques. The birch trees in most of my work begin as sketches and are then stitched in a free-motion way as well before being appliqued to the background.
