You know the virtues of mohair verses wool. Wool has microscopic scales which can cause itchiness or shrinkage (much less if it is very fine wool – ours is less than 18 micron wool.) Mohair is smoother, softer, more durable, more washable and holds dye better than any other fiber. Our super-kid mohair is as smooth as cashmere.
As you know, mohair is the most durable natural fiber…the old train seats and the old car seats and the WWI military uniforms were mohair because it was the most durable fiber at that time. Our Mohair products wear a long time.
Our production is all American fiber with the mohair coming from our sustainable 300 Angora goats farm in central Pennsylvania. Come visit the farm. Our very fine merino wool comes from sustainable ranches in Texas and Western United States. Our farm and products are PA Preferred and Animal Welfare Approved. We are members of Made in America Movement. Our narrative of sustainable farming is traceable through our website and social media.
The farm is a finalist for the Pennsylvania Leopold Conservation Award. Fiber from small ruminants is the epidemy of sustainability using renewable resources - nothing more than sunshine, air and water with photosynthesis producing grasses and forbs. Obviously, this is low carbon footprint, but the grazing-ruminants farming system enhances soil health and sequesters carbon in the soil. You can recall our story of sustainable farming with your products.
