Barbara makes wheel-thrown pottery in rich, bright colors with botanical, aquatic, and abstract imagery. A second line of work features pit-fired pieces for a more neutral aesthetic. Her stunning lamps are beautifully matched with lampshades made from exotic Unryu papers. Other pieces include lidded jars, tile tables, bowls and chargers, some with added gold or copper leaf.

  • Poppies! Poppies! lamp
    23" table lamp with a chartreuse background and bright red poppy flowers. Lamp shade is made with a chartreuse exotic mulberry paper to coordinate with the base. $395...

    • 23" h X 18" diameter (includes shade).  Wheel-thrown base with layered matte glazes and slips.
  • Pit-fired Lamp
    Lamp is 24" high and 20" in diameter, inclusive of shade. Pit-fired clay base with exotic paper shade....

    • This primitive-fired piece bears the elusive ghost of a fern leaf.  Barbara's pit-fired pieces are washed with various soluble metals (iron, silver, copper) and fired in a tub with downed wood from her back yard.  Each one is truly an individual and can never be reproduced. Shade is made from exotic mulberry paper.
  • Orchid Vessel
    Wheel-thrown and matte glazed vessel with phalaenopsis orchid motif....

    • My pieces are wheel-thrown, hand painted with matte slips, then fired.  This design originated from an orchid I grew in my bay window.
  • Pit-fired jar
    Wheel-thrown lidded jar. Pit-fired with fern leaf ghost....

    • This lidded jar is strikingly simple.  Iron and copper washes reveal the image of a full fern leaf.  
  • Red Ginkgo Lamp
    Wheel-thrown clay base with matte glazes/slips. Shade made from exotic mulberry paper. 23" high....

    • The ancient Ginkgo tree is a favorite of mine.  I try to capture the image of falling Ginkgo leaves in this lamp.  I form the base on a potters wheel and hand paint the image, then fire it in a kiln.  The lamp shade is made from a beautiful mulberry paper with black, gray, and red fibers.
