This handmade "sheesham" or rosewood spice or trinket box is a wonderful conversation piece that's also a beautiful addition to any kitchen or home!

Each box was lovingly handmade in India in the traditional style of the spice boxes of the region, from the sheesham, or rosewood tree that only grows in India, China and Pakistan. There's a beautiful gloss to the wood grain that makes the box shine! This is a wonderful twist of recreation of the traditional spice box that a young woman would have received as a wedding gift to start her own household/kitchen and hold her blended spices. The lid easily slides aside to reveal whatever treasures (spice or otherwise) that you choose to keep inside.

**Note: These boxes do not have a full seal/tight closure. Recommend that spices be kept in bags in the inner compartments if you use this as a spice box.

This food grade, stainless steel with shisham (rosewood) tops is a wonderful conversation piece that's also a beautiful addition to any kitchen! Each of the inner containers are the perfect size to hold all of your regional spices to keep them fresh and safe.

Made in the region by artisans, this is a recreation of the traditional spice containers that a young woman would have received as a wedding gift to start her own household/kitchen and hold her blended spices. The inner bowls are removable and have their own little shisham rosewood handmade tops that easily lift off, and two little tiny spoons, made just the right size for your spice mixes. The main container has it's own tightly fitting lid with knob to ensure no water/humidity or other contaminants get into your spices.

The box comes with a paper coating that protects the out lid's see-through container (that must be removed), and the knob and spoons inside the box, for your convenience. Each box is handcrafted, so each box is slightly different - picture is representative. The total measurements of this box: approximately 8" round x 3" deep.

I spent some time living in Pakistan, and instantly fell in love with the food, the people, the culture, and especially, the women. I’ve traveled all over the world, immersing myself in different cultures and learning the recipes of the countries I’ve visited, to better understand the people through what they eat and the love they put into their food. In my experience, the best way to get to know a culture and peoples is through their cuisine. It’s an opening to create bonds and life-long memories with them as well; while you may start as strangers, you end the experience with life-long memories.

Unfortunately, the wonderful flavors of the food of Afghanistan and Pakistan are mostly unknown to people outside of both countries. Language, measurements, spices, wars, they’re all barriers to us demystifying the wonderful flavors of this region. And yet, the women in these countries spend a lifetime learning these recipes; they don’t write them down, they don’t measure the ingredients. They cook only over fire. And they lovingly create these delicious dishes for their families and especially, their guests.

I have taken the time to “translate” for you some of my favorite recipes from both countries. It’s my goal to support women’s empowerment initiatives through your experience with their cuisine. I hope you enjoy!
