Spiral View Photography

The mornings in the National Mall tend to be overrun with joggers and wedding photography sessions. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a little off the beaten trail and offers a quiet place to relax and reflect. This photo was taken shortly after sunrise, right as the sun aligned with the edge of the memorial wall. The amazing sky colors are true to life and provide an amazing effect mirrored on of the wall.

The best shots are often taken by being in the right place at the right time. After buying a new camera we went to National Harbor, MD to try it out. While I was fiddling with the settings my wife noticed the beautiful sky as the sun ducked behind the clouds. I was lucky enough to grab a few photos before the sun set completely, but this random outing produced one of my favorite sunsets against the Ferris wheel.

Travel tip for Rome: Get the earliest tours possible if you don't want to be drowning in humans. Taking that advice, we took off for our Colosseum tour way early than one would normally want to wake up for vacation. On the walk there, we happened to notice the sun aligning perfectly with the Colosseum windows. After doing some backtracking for the perfect framing, we did manage to make the tour. But it couldn't live up to this view.

The dreary English weather is at least a good way of creating perfect sunsets. After multiple trips we were finally able to get a view of the ancient monument without rain.

The desert is always an amazing location for star photography and Big Bend's remoteness makes it especially great. This photo is a composite of Mexican cliffs with the Milky Way overhead. The photo is taken from the Rio Grande River durring the dry season, allowing us to stand on the US-Mexican border.
