The UC Irvine Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care Fellowships are nationally recognized, longitudinal CME certificate programs that prepare primary care clinicians to confidently diagnose, treat, and manage behavioral health conditions. Through case-based learning, expert faculty mentorship, and collaborative peer learning, participants gain practical, evidence-based skills that can be immediately applied in clinical practice. Designed for DOs, MDs, NPs, PAs, PharmDs, and other members of the healthcare team, TNT offers fellowships in Primary Care Psychiatry (PCP), Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (PC-CAP), and Team-Based Addiction Medicine (PC-TEAM). With more than 2,000 graduates and expanding national and international partnerships, TNT is helping strengthen the primary care workforce and improve access to integrated behavioral healthcare.

  • Primary Care Psychiatry Training

    The TNT PCP Fellowship is a year-long clinical education certificate program for primary care-oriented trainees and providers seeking advanced training in primary care psychiatry. This training is provided by national experts at the interface of integrated psychiatric and general medical practice. There is a strong focus on learning with translation to excellent delivery of behavioral healthcare for mainly underserved populations. We train primary care providers to:

    1. Recognize early symptoms of common mild to moderate psychiatric conditions
    2. Complete a quick and targeted “primary care psychiatric” assessment
    3. Provide evidence-informed treatment using cognitive therapy techniques, motivational interviewing and use of appropriate medications

    The UCI School of Medicine Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care – Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (PC-CAP) Fellowship is a year-long clinical education certificate program for primary care-oriented trainees and providers who wish to receive advanced training in the care of pediatric and adolescent patients with behavioral health concerns. This training is provided by national experts at the interface of integrated child and adolescent psychiatric and general practice; many of whom are “triple-trained” in pediatrics, psychiatry and child / adolescent psychiatry. The program includes a strong focus on learning with translation to excellent delivery of behavioral healthcare for mainly underserved populations.

  • Primary Care – Addiction Medicine Training

    The UCI School of Medicine Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care – Training and Education in Addiction Medicine (PC-TEAM) Fellowship is a one-year training program designed for primary care providers working in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Neurology or Pharmacy. The target audiences for the program are MDs, DOs, NPs, PAs and PharmDs.

    We train primary care providers to:

    Complete an evidence-informed substance use screening in busy primary care or other general medical settings.
    Effectively prevent, diagnose, and treat commonly encountered substance use and pain-related disorders (e.g., opioids, alcohol, stimulants, and benzodiazepines).
    Teach these principles to their primary care colleagues
