Keeping vehicles on the road and minimizing the negative consequences of a vehicle leaving the roadway are the core objectives of FHWA’s roadway safety research program. Research topics include preventing and mitigating roadway departure crashes, advanced crash simulation and analysis, intersection safety, protecting pedestrians, speed management, low cost safety countermeasures, and safety applications for Connected Vehicles technologies.
