Since the 1970s, WDM has worked with highways agencies worldwide to identify places where low skid resistance should be investigated. The SCRIM® survey vehicle continuously measures network-level surface friction, including horizontal curves, ramps, and intersections.
WDM’s SCRIM® device is a completely self-contained system consisting of a vehicle chassis fitted with a large water tank, one or two measuring wheel assemblies, and data recording electronics. It combines continuous friction measurement with GPS-linked texture, surface condition, and geometrics. At operating speeds of up to 55 mph, it is safer for both operators and road users.
