Pre-Meeting Workshops

These optional courses are designed to benefit all members of the Society and SSO 2018 attendees with an emphasis practical information for the practicing surgeon. Registrants also wishing to attend the 2018 Annual Cancer Symposium are required to pay the full meeting registration fee above. All pre-meeting courses will take place at the McCormick Place Lakeside Center. Visit the SSO 2018 registration site to sign-up. Registration is limited, so please sign up early!

Practice-Changing Papers in Surgical Oncology in 2017

This engaging session will highlight breakthroughs in surgical oncology, the hottest new therapeutics, and practice changing trials across multiple disciplines. Experts in the field will review significant studies in surgical oncology over the past year, how it affects practice, and what is on the horizon. Complex General Surgical Oncology (CGSO) Board Exam Review Session

This interactive review session will provide updated information pertinent to surgical oncology in preparation for the CGSO QE and CE examinations, including core knowledge presentations, oral board examination advice, and practical advice with feedback. Fellows Institute II: Practical Aspects of Starting a Surgical Oncology Career

The SSO Training Committee organized this pre-meeting workshop to compliment the topics covered at Fellows Institute in November. Faculty will speak to personal experiences of finding and negotiating a job offer, communication skills, and how to maintain a work-life balance after training. Open to all fellows. The SSO Training and Research Committees have organized a pre-meeting workshop for Fellows and Junior Faculty in Surgical Oncology. The program has been broken down into two half-day sessions, listed above.

Residents Oncology Forum
Wednesday, March 21 | 8 am-12 pm
Free. Advance registration required.

This half-day didactic course geared toward General Surgery trainees will be in the format of a case-based presentation for various cancers. At the conclusion, there will be time for question and answers regarding the presented topics as well as choosing a career in Surgical Oncology.  This session is open to all General Surgery residents, medical students, and other interested healthcare professionals.
