Continuous friction equipment and survey services
WDM USA is a leading provider of pavement condition equipment, survey services, and asset management solutions. WDM's SCRIM® vehicles combine continuous friction measurement with GPS-linked texture, IRI, and geometrics. Across networks and at horizontal curves, ramps, and intersections, SCRIM® data provides critical insight into friction's role in road performance. When used in pavement friction management programs, SCRIM® technology helps reduce crashes and deliver safer roads, saving lives.

Minnesota Collaborates with WDM USA on Materials Performance Projects
As part of WDM USA’s national Summer of SCRIM®, WDM USA partnered with Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and the Minnesota Local Road Research Board (LRRB) on two innovative material performance evaluation projects involving SCRIM® data.
In the first, SCRIM® visited the MnRoad test track (sponsored by MnDOT and LRRB) in Otsego, MN to evaluate the friction performance of a variety of pavement marking materials and the friction differential between those markings and the surrounding pavement: https://www.cts.umn.edu/research/project/pavement-marking-colored-pavement-friction-differential-and-product-durability
In the second, SCRIM® partnered with Vic Lund, P.E., PTOE., Traffic Engineer, and the St. Louis County, MN team to analyze the in-service performance properties of taconite, a local material, to better characterize its potential for friction enhancement: https://www.wdio.com/mining-news/testing-friction-of-road-material-made-with-taconite-tailings/
With increased interest in measuring, monitoring, and managing friction performance using SCRIM® data, agencies are making cost-effective, data-driven material and treatment selection decisions across the road network. The result is fewer crashes, helping agencies deliver safer roads and saving lives.
