Mobile Mapping is the process of capturing Physics reality for a 3D virtual environment using sensors embedded in a vehicle, whether on roads, coastal areas, urban areas, airports or railways, for various purposes. Strata Engenharia has the Pegasus solution, Two Ultimate version, a mobile mapping system from Leica Geosystems, the Swiss manufacturer that is a world leader in Geotechnologies. This solution combines a submillimetric accuracy laser scanner (LIDAR), IMU + GNSS (a satellite-based positioning inertial system), DM1 (precision odometer), and fully synchronized calibrated cameras, thus allowing the extraction of georeferenced information through point cloud, photogrammetry and thermography or a combination of all those technologies. The field survey is carried out by a moving vehicle at an speed of up to 70km/h, without impairing the operation of the roads; it can also be carried out during the day or at night. The cameras can be configured to gather images according to a preset distance. The LIDAR system is responsible for capturing topographic points at high resolution (1,000,000 points per second) through transversal sensors with a 360-degree coverage and a range of up to 120 meters, thus forming an extremely dense cloud of topographic points. The positioning sensors are composed of a triple frequency GNSS responsible for georeferencing the data, an inertial system capable of making 200 readings per second that compensate for the angular movements of the vehicle during data gathering, and a high precision DMI that acts when there is position loss due to lack of satellite signal in closed areas, such as tunnels or places with thick vegetation.
