 Press Releases

  • Transil® SXT by E-Chem will be introduced at the January 2024 Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting. This clear, penetrating, breathable, surface-applied liquid treatment strengthens, protects, and hardens concrete pavements, extending the service life by up to 35%.

Transil® SXT is one of several new, innovative products developed by E-Chem in the last six months.

“Use Transil® SXT on concrete pavements for highways, bridge decks, parking decks, and airport runways as a pavement preservation treatment,” says Ray Breer, Sales Director at E-Chem. “It will enhance the wear resistance of concrete surfaces, whether they are tined, diamond ground, grooved, milled, shot-blasted, or re-textured.”

An added benefit, according to the company, is the reduced carbon emissions of concrete. “Because Transil®SXT extends the service life of the concrete, it reduces the need and frequency for replacement concrete that emits additional carbon pollution,” Breer points out.

Transil® SXT is designed to be an easy, one-coat application, with no water wash required, and is UV stable. Apply to freshly placed or even existing concrete surfaces.

Transil® SXT(+) provides the added benefit of cold climate use. “Now, there is no reason why concrete surfaces in cold climates should wear out early,” observed Breer. “Transil® SXT(+), just like our Transil® SXT, provides an easy, one-coat application that requires no water wash on freshly placed, new, or existing concrete surfaces. You can even apply multiple applications, depending on the degree of alkali-silica reactions.”

“It is cost-effective and allows for a safe and rapid return to service. And these days, that’s more important than ever,” says Breer.

To learn more about Transil® SXT and Transil® SXT(+) along with the other new roadway solutions developed by E-Chem, visit their booth, #544, at the TRB Annual Meeting, January 7-11, in Washington D.C. or go to https://e-chem.net

  • Transil® BOND (OG) by E-Chem will be introduced at the January 2024 Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting. This clear, penetrating, breathable, surface-applied liquid treatment helps to prevent BOND line failures using STRiON:FORTIFY technology. It also prevents coating failures by increasing BOND density, increases BOND strength by 30%, reduces BOND line pH, blocks the formation of silica gels at the BOND surface, and mitigates the effects of vapor drive.

Transil® BOND (OG) is one of several new, innovative products developed by E-Chem in the last six months.

“Our Transil® BOND (OG) simply improves any concrete slab it’s applied to,” says Ray Breer, Sales Director at E-Chem. “When it penetrates the BOND layer of the concrete, it forms an insoluble wear and moisture protective surface.”

Use it on concrete pavements for highways, parking decks, and airport runways, as

a pavement coating pre-treatment designed to enhance bonding properties of nonpermeable coatings on concrete surfaces.

“Transil® BOND (OG) extends the life expectancy and integrity of the pavement, enhancing surface durability,” observed Breer.

  • EPX50LT-OVERLAY by E-Chem will be introduced at the January 2024 Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting. This moisture-insensitive, epoxy urethane co-polymer overlay resin is designed to be installed in conditions as low as 30˚F, thus greatly extending the construction window for roadway pavement, bridges, and elevated slabs. Additionally, this epoxy binder will provide a rapid return-to-service option for short-closure operations.

EPX50LT-OVERLAY is one of several new, innovative products developed by E-Chem in the last six months.

“This is a game-changer in many ways,” observed Ray Breer, Sales Director at E-Chem. “This resin binder is a first-in-class product that truly provides a high-performing option for contractors and DOTs for low-temperature installations and rapid return to service requirements. The EPX50LT-OVERLAY is the first of many low-temperature epoxy resin systems under development for E-Chem.”

Breer reported that E-Chem recently completed its New York City DOT HFST Bus Lane Trials on East 34th Street, Manhattan, with its EPX50LT-OVERLAY. This project began at 35ºF and even experienced a few snowflakes during the process. “The low temperatures had no effect on curing, and the project was completed successfully.”

EPX50LT-OVERLAY can be applied by fully automated equipment, automated epoxy pumping systems, or hand mix and provides a skid-resistant bridge deck overlay surface, as a high-friction surface treatment, and as a binder in epoxy repair mortars used in patching concrete.

  • When it comes to new products, 2023 has been a very productive year at E-Chem. The company, part of the Infrastructure Division of Meridian Adhesives Group, will be rolling out four new products at the TRB with a host of benefits.

“We believe that these new offerings will get wide attention among engineers, specifiers, GCs, and DOTs across the country,” explained Ray Breer, Sales Director at E-Chem. “Each is designed to markedly improve the performance and longevity of concrete in the transportation sector.”

Here are a few examples E-Chem will feature:

Late-season cold conditions? No problem. E-Chem’s EPX5OLT is a moisture-insensitive, epoxy urethane co-polymer overlay resin that is designed to be installed in conditions as low as 30˚F, thus greatly extending the construction window for roadway pavement, bridges, and elevated slabs. E-Chem recently completed its New York City DOT HFST Bus Lane Trials on East 34th Street, Manhattan, with its EPX-50LT, where it was reported that low temperatures had no effect on curing, and the project was completed successfully, according to Breer.

Getting more life out of your roadway while reducing your carbon footprint? E-Chem promises up to 35% more life out of the concrete. “Use Transil® SXT on concrete pavements for highways, bridge decks, parking decks, and airport runways as a pavement preservation treatment,” says Breer. “It will enhance the wear resistance of concrete surfaces, whether they are tined, diamond ground, grooved, milled, shot-blasted, or re-textured.”

Cold weather climates are always a challenge for concrete. Not so much when you apply Transil® SXT(+) withits effective anti-spalling/scaling properties. It’s formulated to stand up to freeze-thaw cycling, studded tires, chains, snowplows, and deicers. “Now, there is no reason why concrete surfaces in cold climates should wear out early,” observed Breer.

Your concrete treatments are only as good as your BOND strength, so E-Chem developed Transil® BOND (OG), an applied liquid treatment that helps to prevent BOND line failures using STRiON:FORTIFY technology. It promises improving BOND strength by 30%.

E-Chem also created Transil® 244(+) as a unique densifying solution that can screen chloride ions with 92% effectiveness.

“Being part of Meridian has spurred our product innovation to bring new solutions extending life to concrete pavement preservation in an ecologically friendly way. This is an exciting time for our company and industry,” observed Breer.

  • TRANSIL® BOND (OG) is a clear, penetrating, pre-treatment for concrete slabs on grade that require subsequent epoxy coatings or wear course overlay systems. TRANSIL® BOND (OG) is a low-viscosity surface treatment preventing BOND line failures using STRiON:FORTIFY. TRANSIL® BOND (OG) prevents coating failures by increasing substrate BOND line density, increasing BOND strength by 30%, reducing BOND line pH, blocking the subsequent formation of silica gels at the BOND surface, and reducing the effects of vapor drive.

TRANSIL® BOND (OG) coating pre-treatment penetrates the BOND layer of concrete, where it reacts with the free lime to form C-S-H (calcium silicate hydrate) forming an insoluble wear and moisture protective surface. TRANSIL® BOND (OG) creates a surface that is denser, and hence harder and less permeable than plain concrete. This increased hardness and enhanced durability helps prevent surface de-lamination of impermeable coatings.
